Erin Patterson

Policy Assistant

Erin Patterson is a Policy Assistant with EducationCounsel. Her background in education policy and practice includes experience in the non-profit sector, philanthropy, federal policy, and as a classroom teacher. Erin was previously a Program Associate at the American Youth Policy Forum, a D.C.-based education policy convener. Her portfolio included projects to align youth-serving systems and enable a continuum of success for students from K-12 to postsecondary and the workforce. She authored and co-authored several briefs and publications, convened federal and state policymakers, and facilitated conversations about issues including educational opportunities for youth in the foster care and juvenile justice systems, teacher policy, afterschool and expanded learning, and research-informed policymaking. Other previous experience includes serving as an Education Initiatives Fellow with The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region in Washington, D.C.; interning in the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Planning, Evaluation, and Policy Development; and teaching both middle and high school Government and Economics in both North Carolina and Virginia. She earned a Master's in Public Policy from George Mason University and holds a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Psychology from Anderson University in South Carolina.
