New from the National Council on Teacher Quality and EducationCounsel:  Lifting the Pension Fog: What teachers and taxpayers need to know about the teacher pension crisis

Despite consistent trends and mounting evidence regarding the policy risks and pitfalls that plague current teacher pension structures in the vast majority of states, it is easy to get lost in the fog that surrounds these policies. Lifting the Pension Fog cuts through the overly-optimistic projections and deferral of consequences and evaluates state teacher pension policies against a forward looking and sustainable approach to teacher retirement benefits in four key areas: sustainability, flexibility, neutrality, and for the first time, transparency. It includes policy profiles of the 50 states and the District of Columbia, as well as recommendations for what states can do to better support the security and interests of teachers and taxpayers alike.
