DEEP DIVE: The First Six Months: The Trump Administration’s Education-Related Priorities and Actions

July 22, 2025, marked the six-month anniversary of the Trump Administration. Given all that has happened in that time affecting education, EducationCounsel developed The First Six Months: The Trump Administration’s Education-Related Priorities and Actions. This “Deep Dive” is organized around 10 Trump Administration priorities that EducationCounsel has identified as core areas of focus thus far. The First Six Months includes brief, factual summaries of key actions related to each of the following Administration priorities:

  1. Eliminate the U.S. Department of Education & Reduce Capacity of Other Agencies
  2. Minimize the Federal Role in Education & Transfer Power to States
  3. Reduce Federal Education Funding & Programs for Public Schools and Safety Net
  4. Expand Funding for Private Schools, Including for Religious Schools
  5. Dismantle “DEIA” & Reverse Civil Rights Enforcement
  6. Reverse Gender Equity Rights 
  7. Disrupt Higher Education
  8. Increase Immigration Enforcement & Deny Benefits to Noncitizens
  9. Limit Education R&D and Data
  10. Advance Select Education Priorities

This review of the first six months can help make sense of existing developments and support a better understanding of what is likely to happen in the next six months and beyond.
